The online course consists of a total of 160 learning modules spaced over the duration of your prep time. There are 130 content modules which cover concepts from general chemistry, organic chemistry, physics, biology, biochemistry, psychology, and sociology - all of the fun science that you must know to be successful. The other 30 modules cover strategies for approaching passage and questions, methods for efficient studying and stress management, and a general review of the MCAT and medical admissions cycle.
The course order is designed around spaced repetition, where a concept is first introduced and then later built upon. This is especially true for the strategy modules. The first assigned strategy modules introduce general approaches to reading CARS and science passages. The other strategy modules are broken into 3 lessons that build in complexity. For example, after the science passage strategy module, there are 3 additional modules that expound on ways that you should be approaching passages and questions covering Skill 3, experimental design. The three parts are spaced a few weeks apart so that you can learn more content to apply in the next module and work up to more challenging experimental setups. This is true for the CARS modules as well, with multiple modules covering arguments, opinions, and question types.
Interspersed among the strategy modules are content modules. You will work through multiple science content areas each week, rather than focusing on only one subject for a few weeks. This helps to keep your studies more engaging, since switching subjects is a great way to refocus, and give you a well rounded knowledge base. Keeping the modules stratified across topics can prevent you from getting too comfortable (focusing on nothing but strengths) or too stressed (focusing on nothing but weaknesses). The science modules are cumulative and start with the foundations of a given subject and then build to more challenging material. For example, biochemistry basics and amino acid properties are introduced before metabolism. Some content from the science modules will be used in strategy modules to demonstrate application of the material. Your modules will be scheduled so that you’re prepared to see content in application by the time you experience it in a strategy module.
In addition to learning modules, practice questions are incorporated in the study plan, as either AAMC question pack assignments or Full Length Exams. Be sure to prioritize practice alongside content review. While the modules are designed to build the foundations, it is frequent testlike practice that will really solidify your content knowledge and allow you to hone your approach to questions and pacing. The full length exams and practice sets will also allow you to assess your content knowledge so that you can target your review on weaker areas.
