Best Practices for Using the MCAT Qbank

You've already got plenty of built-in practice: prebuilt sets in your study plan, AAMC assignments (make sure you finish these), and book End of Chapter questions (access instructions here).

But as your MCAT gets closer, you'll need more targeted practice to close specific gaps — that's what the Qbank is for. Topic filters let you zero in on content, and flexible set lengths let you control how much you take on. Here's how to use it well at each stage of your prep.

Add regular CARS practice
Your study plan includes some CARS quizzes, but if you're trying to raise your CARS score, add more at a steady cadence.

  • Start with ~2 passages/week in 2 separate practice sets, added with the + button in your study calendar. You can pre-build sets in the Qbank and add them with +, or create them directly in the calendar.

  • After 2-3 weeks, check your progress. Stick with 2/week, or bump up to 3-4/week if you need more.

  • Start as early as possible, and keep adjusting your cadence as your prep continues.

Practice by topic — but space it out
It's tempting to binge questions on a weak topic, but burning through a topic too early tends to backfire. Spacing out practice and review works better.

  • Recommended flow: module and/or book, then an end-of-chapter quiz about a week later.

  • Still shaky on that quiz? Go back to whichever resource (module or book) you used less the first time, and review again.

  • Still unsure after that? That's when a Qbank quiz on the topic makes sense. Otherwise, hold off until after your next Full Length to see if you actually need more reps.

Keep topic-specific quizzes short
One passage or 2-3 questions is plenty. A few short quizzes with review in between beat one big set that burns through your practice pool — if you're still struggling with a topic, you'll want questions left over for later review rounds.

Use the Qbank for test-like reps too
Don't limit the Qbank to topic drilling. Build longer, section-level sets (not topic-filtered) for shorter bursts of test-like practice between Full Lengths.

  • This sharpens strategy and pacing as you get closer to test day.

  • Take these sets under test-like conditions for the best results.

There's no single right way to use the Qbank, so revisit your approach as your prep evolves. Use the + button often to build the sets that fit where you are right now.
